Transition Information Letter May 2026

Dear Parent/Carer,

Year 6 into 7 Transition Days

I am writing to inform you of the arrangements for our transition days, which will take place on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th July. We would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your family as you join our College and embark on an exciting journey through secondary education.

Monday 6th July

College staff will be on duty from 8:20am (wearing high visibility jackets) to welcome your child onto site and direct them into the College via the student entrance. Staff inside of the College will direct them to the main hall in readiness for an assembly.

The dress code for the day is full school uniform.

If you have any questions, whilst on site, please ask a member of our duty staff who may be able to assist you. If they are unable to answer your query, they may ask you to go to main reception which is on the right-hand side of the building.

Please be aware that we do not allow parent/carers to drive onto the site for school drop-off/collection and we would ask for your support with this.

Welcome Assembly

There will be a welcome assembly to introduce your child to the College and to outline the arrangements for the first day. Your child will also find out which House they will be part of and who their Head of Year will be.

Catering and Canteen

Your child will be added to our cashless catering system, which allows them to purchase food and drink at break and lunch. Before Transition Day, you will receive instructions for setting up a ParentPay account. This will enable you to add funds to your child’s catering balance and also pay for school trips and events.

If your child wishes to buy food or drink during the Transition Days, their account must be topped up before they arrive. Information about our menus can be found on the school website under Catering & Dining in the Parents & Carers section, Click here.

Break and Lunch

Students will have an extended break from 10:50am – 11:20am and extended lunch from 1:10pm – 2:00pm to allow them some additional time to navigate the site and get to the canteen.

End of Day

The school day ends at the usual time of 3:00pm. Your child will be ready to leave the site via the student entrance at this time.

Information Evening

Following this first transition day, we would like to welcome you and your child to our information evening, which starts at 6:30pm. You are welcome to park on site (if driving), and we would suggest that you arrive from 6:00pm. During the evening you will receive a welcome talk from the Principal and Deputy Principal and will have opportunity to meet with your House team.

Tuesday 7th July

Please follow the arrival arrangements from the first transition day for the second transition day, including what to wear. College staff will be on duty and available to assist with any queries that have arisen following the first transition day. College staff will direct your child into the College via the student reception.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you and your child and welcoming you into our school community for a strong and successful start at Sir Harry Smith Community College.

Best wishes,

Mr M Crane
Primary to Secondary Transition Lead
