Calling All Employers

At Sir Harry Smith Community College, we recognise the importance of engaging with local and national employers to offer our students the opportunity to experience and prepare for the world of work, and to find out first-hand about different careers and pathways

Employers play a key part in our Careers Education Information and Guidance (CEIAG) programme, helping to raise the career aspirations of our students, offering a wealth of expertise on specific career sectors, informing about available opportunities and also assisting with developing employability skills.

We rely of employers and alumni to work with us to deliver experiences that help inform our students about potential future pathways and opportunities, not only in their local area, but nationally and internationally. We appreciate that your time is valuable, but we would welcome the chance to discuss how you could be involved in our CEIAG provision.

Examples of how employers have been involved previously are:

  • Host a stand at our SHSCC Careers Fair (5th July 2024).
  • Speaking to interested students about your career sector, roles and different pathways
  • Taking part in a CEIAG workshop or activity, such as Meet the Professionals, employability and CV workshops and challenge and enterprise events.
  • Conducting mock interviews – all of our Year 11 and Year 13 students prepare for and experience an interview with local employers.
  • Facilitate a visit to your workplace, allowing students to experience the world of work and how it operates.
  • Mentoring with older students.
  • Q and A with an employer sessions – virtual or face-to-face.

If you would like to engage with us and help to inspire our students, please contact Angela Curtis at ACurtis@sirharrysmith.com or by phone on 01733 703991 to discuss ways you can help.

We work closely with Growth Works and Form the Future to support our engagement with employers, and with Future First for our alumni engagement. More information about these organisations can be found at:

By engaging with our school, you will not only be helping to broaden the horizons and aspirations of young people but will also be developing the skills of your staff, helping the community and creating a positive profile for your organisation.
