On 24th and 27th June, the History Department ran two trips to Warwick Castle, taking almost 120 students.

Students have learned about medieval history in class this year so it was great to be able to take them to a real castle and a learn a little more about aspects of medieval life. Students were able to watch jousting as part of a recreation of the 'Wars of the Roses' and a falconry display as a reminder of the role birds of prey once played in aristocratic families. In addition, students visited the 'Kingmaker' exhibition to learn about what it was like to prepare for battle during the 15th century. Some students took part in the formidable 'Wall Walk' and climbed to the top of Guy's Tower. It's fair to say that some calf muscles were aching the next day!

Staff and students alike had a great day. We did get stuck in traffic on the return journey on Friday, but all of the staff were impressed with the exemplary behaviour of the students, despite being sat on a hot coach for several hours.

Mr Tomlin would like to thank Mr White and Ms Curtis for spending so much time planning these trips, and every member of staff who accompanied us. It would be impossible to run these trips without the good humour and goodwill of so many staff who are willing to give up their time, effort and energy to give these kinds of opportunities to our students.
