Curriculum Manager for Physical Education

Salary MPS/UPS with TLR

Required for September 2024

This Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are subject to Enhanced DBS clearance and satisfactory employment history references.

Sir Harry Smith Community College are seeking to appoint an energetic, enthusiastic and inspirational practitioner to continue to develop our PE department. You will work closely with SLT to provide visionary leadership and effective management of a strong department.

The opportunity exists to increase outstanding outcomes in the department as well as to implement a rich and rewarding curriculum at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 with a talented team of staff. As with all middle leadership roles, the chance to shape students’ understanding of a curriculum area is important and, as such, the successful candidate will inspire all students to take part in physical activity and sport and will be crucial in promoting healthy, active lifestyles across the College.

In addition to core PE across KS3 and KS4 we offer the Cambridge National in Sport course and at Key Stage 5 we offer the BTEC National Extended Certificate and the Sports National Diploma. Both Key Stage 4 and 5 results place the PE department in the top 20% of schools nationally, something that we are incredibly proud of. We are also proud of our extensive extra-curricular programme and always look to develop this further.

The role will suit a committed Deputy Head of PE looking for their first Head of Department role or an ambitious teacher of PE who is ready to step up to a new and exciting leadership challenge. The school offers strong support through our line management structure as well as an excellent induction programme and a commitment to ‘bespoke’ CPD for individual needs.

The successful candidate will join a strong team of 5 teachers. From the moment you join us you will feel welcomed and supported by the whole school team, ranging from early career teachers through to highly experienced practitioners.
